  1. Visual check
Look for swollen battery case, leaking acid, loose terminals, or white/green corrosion around the posts.
  2. Check terminal tightness
Battery terminals must be tight. Loose terminals can cause hard starting, flickering lights, or random electrical issues.
  3. Check corrosion
If you see powdery buildup on the terminals, clean it properly. Corrosion can block current flow.
  4. Check voltage
    Use a multimeter:

Battery Reading   | Condition
---------------           | --------------------------------
12.6V or above    | Healthy / fully charged
12.4V                   | Okay, but not full
12.2V                   | Weak
Below 12.0V        | Low / needs charging
Below 11.8V        | Very weak / possible bad battery

  1. Check during cranking
When starting the engine, voltage should usually not drop below 9.6V. If it drops too low, the battery may be weak.
  2. Check alternator charging
With engine running, voltage should usually read around 13.8V to 14.5V.
If it stays near 12V, the alternator may not be charging properly.
  3. Watch the signs
    Common weak battery signs:
  • slow crank
  • clicking sound when starting
  • dim headlights
  • battery warning light
  • needing jump-start often
  • electronics acting strange

Simple caption:

A weak battery doesn’t always die suddenly. It usually gives signs first: slow crank, dim lights, low voltage, and poor charging.
