The exhaust valve is the engine’s exit door.

After combustion, burnt gases need to leave the cylinder. The exhaust valve opens to let those gases flow out, then closes again to keep the combustion chamber sealed.

It works under extreme heat because exhaust gases are very hot. That’s why exhaust valves are usually made from strong, heat-resistant materials.

A good exhaust valve helps the engine breathe properly, maintain power, and run smoothly.

If it doesn’t seal well or gets damaged, the engine may lose compression, misfire, feel weak, overheat, or produce rough running.

Simple way:

Intake valve lets fresh air in.
Exhaust valve lets burnt gases out.
