How does it work?

  • Normal Operation: When the engine is operating at low to medium loads, the wastegate remains closed. This allows all exhaust gases to flow through the turbine, generating maximum boost pressure.
  • Preventing Overboost: As engine load increases, the wastegate opens gradually, allowing some exhaust gases to bypass the turbine. This reduces the amount of energy available to spin the turbine, limiting boost pressure and preventing the turbocharger from exceeding its safe operating limits.
