Range Rover Sport or LR3 - alternator replacement

How to Change Alternator on your Range Rover Sport 2005-2013 L320, it also applies to Land Rover LR3/ Discovery 3.

1. Identify Symptoms: Look for various dash lights, a burning smell, and the vehicle dying shortly after jumping it, indicating a failing alternator.

2. Disconnect Battery: Before replacing the alternator, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shocks.

3. Locate Alternator: The alternator is located underneath the vehicle. Remove the oil skid plate and a cover on the passenger side to access it.

4. Remove Bolts: The alternator is held in place by three bolts. Remove these bolts carefully.

5. Loosen Tensioner Pulley: To remove the alternator belt, loosen the tensioner pulley. Then, remove the red positive cable and the electrical wire from the back of the alternator.

6. Install New Alternator: Install the new alternator by reversing the removal process. Ensure everything is securely fastened.

7. Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

8. Jumpstart Vehicle: Jumpstart the vehicle once to recharge the battery.

9. Test Run: Let the vehicle run for about 20 minutes to ensure the alternator is functioning properly.
