It's surrounded by the Israeli West Bank wall, under both Palestinian Authority administration (Area A) and Israeli military occupation. The city's economy is centered around oranges. Population in 2017: 51,683.

History:

It has ancient roots, with archaeological evidence suggesting habitation dating back thousands of years. In modern history, it has been part of various empires and governance structures. However, in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the city has been a focal point of tensions and territorial disputes.

Demography:

The city has a predominantly Palestinian Arab population. Like many cities in the West Bank, its demographics have been significantly influenced by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Geography:

Qalqilya is situated in a fertile region of the West Bank, surrounded by agricultural land and known for its citrus groves. Its proximity to the border with Israel has had a profound impact on the city's development and access to surrounding areas.

Climate:

Like much of the West Bank, Qalqilya experiences a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Summers can see temperatures above 30°C (86°F), while winters are milder, with occasional rainfall. These climate conditions influence the city's agricultural activities and overall way of life.
