King Taejo was the founder of the Joseon Dynasty in Korea. He reigned from 1392 to 1398. His given name was Yi Seonggye, and he is also known by his posthumous title, Taejo.
Taejo was a military leader who rose to power through a series of coups and rebellions. He overthrew the Goryeo Dynasty and established the Joseon Dynasty. As the first king of the new dynasty, he faced numerous challenges in consolidating his power and building a stable government.
Taejo was a patron of the arts and culture. He established the Gyeongbokgung Palace and the National Academy of Learning, which helped to promote education and scholarship. He also implemented a number of reforms aimed at improving the lives of the people.
Despite his achievements, Taejo's reign was marked by political instability and internal conflicts. He abdicated the throne to his son, King Jeongjong, in 1398, and later died in 1400.
